First Sustainable Enterprise Conference in Marin announced for October 26, 2017

Business leader and climate activist Tom Steyer heads the keynote roster.  Held at the Embassy Suites in San Rafael, CA, bringing together government, business and nonprofit leaders to collaborate on solutions for social and environmental challenges.

The Sustainable Enterprise Conference is a day-long conference dedicated to convening and connecting over 300 leaders in business, academic, government, and community groups for an economically, environmentally and socially prosperous future. Expanding on the successful annual Sustainable Enterprise Conference (SEC) running for 12 years in Sonoma, the Marin SEC will promote sustainable business practices in the North Bay, provide tools for companies in transition, showcase best practices and best companies, and encourage networking with others creating more sustainable and resilient organizations and communities. Key topics will include:

  • Current and future Outlook for Environmental and Social trends in Marin and the Region
  • Leading activists and innovative organizations creating solutions that address some of Marin’s greatest challenges — workforce housing and homelessness, traffic congestion, climate change mitigation, sea level rise and social equity.
  • Best practices and policies that are proven to enhance brand value, open new product lines and customer markets, attract and retain top employees through innovations that lower carbon, waste and water footprints.

The conference builds upon Marin’s rich history in major sustainability movements.

  • One of the first counties, nationally, through CCA (community choice aggregation) to create its own electric utility that uses predominantly renewable and non-GHG emitting sources.
  • The birthplace of farm-to-table food systems and certified organic agriculture.
  • Unprecedented protection of open space and parklands in a county contiguous to a major metro region of 7 million people.
  • San Rafael, its county seat, is a Beacon Award winner for being a top California city for leading sustainability policy and practices, and lowering its greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Marin has been ranked California’s healthiest county for the past 7 years
  • What’s next? How does Marin maintain its leadership?

Early sponsors include MCE Clean Energy, EO Products, County of Marin, Marin Sanitary Service, SolarCraft, Sun First Solar, City of San Rafael, San Rafael Chamber, College of Marin, Pacific Sun, Marin Magazine, Bank of Marin and more. The conference will explore sustainability on the personal, enterprise, and regional scale. Speakers will include political, business and thought leaders involved in environmental and social benefit efforts, like Congressman Jared Huffman, Commonwealth Club Climate One host Greg Dalton, MCE Clean Energy CEO Dawn Weisz, Straus Family Dairy CEO Albert Straus, representatives from Sustainable San Rafael and the Marin Chambers.  VenturePad, the organizing entity, is Marin’s newest and largest coworking and entrepreneurship center, located at 1020 B St, San Rafael CA 94901.  The 2017 SEC Marin will be held October 26 at the Embassy Suites Hotel, San Rafael, CA.
